Pressure was verified at the transmission filter cover and found well above 300 PSI. Problem was narrowed down to the transmission since the driveshaft was not turning and there was no loading on the engine whatsoever in any selected speed. With block heater plugged in for 2 hours the engine fired right up but after a brief warm up period it would not move in any direction. Tractor was parked outside for 1 week at 0F until more time available to troubleshoot.

Tractor would not move at low idle and engine RPM had to be increased approx half way before any movement.īlade was pushed in against a solid snow bank and tractor was found weak barely spinning tracks on the icy surface (engine at full throttle and no loading). Tractor was started and driven outside for testing and transmission worked in both directions in all 3 speeds. Transmission was found low and was topped off with approx 1.5 gallons of 30Wt TO4. Once in the shop, the hydraulic problem was repaired, engine oil/filter changed out and all fluids checked. Tractor would not move initially but moved with engine at high idle.

I pulled it off a trailer upon receipt and managed to start it and drive it inside the shop for closer examination. Engine runs great but transmission has issues. I love old iron and bought this as a repair project. Hydraulic issue is resolved, one steering brake needs work but I now know where to look and what to look for. If you do pull the engine, remember that there is a lot of oil in the bell housing.I recently bought a well used Cat D3B Dozer (28Y series) with known hydraulic and steering clutch issues and your posts have proven invaluable in troubleshooting thus far. I have done an engine re & re as I have owned four of these machines over a period of 22 years. If all is accessible behind the converter the easier route is to pull the engine out and that's far easier than pulling the transmission in my opinion.

If you study the repair manual you will probably be able to see all the details and location of the oil pump. The transmission is a real 'bear' to re and re. I have never worked on these transmissions but I suspect the oil pump is behind the converter. pressure plug you need to access is below the tanks on each vertical (out)side of the bevel gear case, just above each track. People using the Classic view only see your post as "Re" to the original post, if they see it at all, none of that original post since Classic does not bring old posts to the top like Modern does they stay in the list where they were posted in time, where you post shows as current. People using Modern view will see your post and the original post you are tagged onto, so they see the "whole" story related to your post. Modern View brings old posts to the "top". You would help yourself by starting your own post and fully describe your needs. While traviss224 may be following along and not posting or may be using a different handle for some reason, it looks like that this thread has his only posts, made over a year ago.
